St Barnabas Penny Lane

This project centred around a powerful vision: to transform St Barnabas Church on Penny Lane—a historic building best known as the childhood church of Paul McCartney—into a vibrant, Jesus-centred creative hub. The goal was to communicate this vision in a short animated film that would capture the energy, purpose, and uniqueness of the project in a heartfelt and visually engaging way.

The animation was entirely hand drawn frame-by-frame in Adobe Photoshop, allowing for a fluid, expressive style that brought a personal and organic feel to the storytelling. Once the illustrations were complete, everything was composited and brought to life in After Effects, where I handled the timing, transitions, and motion work to refine the narrative flow.

The film aimed to reflect both the spiritual depth and creative ambition of the project—bridging heritage with hope, and tradition with transformation. A locally voiced narration helped root the piece in its Liverpool context, while the visuals conveyed warmth, imagination, and possibility.

This animation now serves as a central piece of communication for the church’s launch—used to share the story with potential supporters, creatives, and members of the local community.
